Hezekiah Invited His Enemies

Hezekiah invited his enemies into his house and allowed them to see everything he owned. It did not occur to him that he had become complacent and that as he opened the door for his enemies, he also opened the door for his descendants to go into captivity. The Lord had been so good to him and had won many battles for him so much so that he gained confidence in himself, forgetting that his reliance should always be on the Lord and that an enemy should always remain far off. At a time when Hezekiah should have consulted the Lord his God, he chose not to and this was a costly mistake!

Proverbs 15:31 tells us that we should heed correction!!! When the prophet came to the king to deliver the terrible consequence that Hezekiah’s decision had incurred, it should have alerted Hezekiah that he needed to heed correction. He had become so complacent that he was not interested. He had forgotten that the same God he cried out to that saved him from death was the same God that would hear him again and was able to remove the consequence. On his own account Hezekiah was willing to cry out for help but on the account of his descendants, complacency rendered Hezekiah uncaring stating ‘at least there will be peace in my time’. Dear brothers and sisters may we remain hungry for the Lord, always seeking Him and may we always heed his correction quickly that we may not cause consequences to attack our descendants like that of Hezekiah’s!!

At His Service.
